Alumni Insights: Analia Tan - (LIF 6)

We caught up with LIF 6 Alumnus Analia Tan to hear about her recent business successes with Kiddo.id and her advice for other LIF alumni. Analia recently executed an M&A initiative for her business, Kiddo.id and will bring the company to the next level with the new partner from Singapore. Analia will be staying on as CEO of the business.
Can you tell me about your experiences of the LIF program and how it helped you develop as an entrepreneur?
Joining the LIF program is one of the best entrepreneurship perks that I’ve experienced. It’s an eye opening for me as I can connect and learn from speakers, mentors and other fellows.
Can you explain what Kiddo.id is and what you hope your company will achieve?
Kiddo.id is the first and leading personalized kids’ education courses marketplace in Indonesia with more than fifteen thousand users. We started this with a belief that good grades only at school is not enough to be successful in real life. So we provide test, tracking and stimulation tools for parents to maximize their kids growth and potential since the early years of life. We aim to be the world-class kids education company and parents’ number one choice for their kids growth journey.
What is the one lesson you wish you could tell your younger self about running a business?
Dear my younger self,
Being young is our competitive advantage; learn as much as you can, connect with mentors and the business community as much as you can. Don’t be afraid to take a risk, as Kelly Clarkson said, “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” You can’t please everybody, save your time to not try it.
But after all, thank you! We did it this far :)
What does a typical business day look like for you?
I wake up in the morning and I have a daily check-in meeting with my team at 9am. We discussed yesterday’s result and what we will do today. To guide our discussion, we use OKR metrics where every team member in the company can see and help each other.
Right after daily check-in and before lunch time, I manage my time to read and reply to emails, doing sales calls, and any administration jobs. After lunch, usually my schedule will be filled with external (sales and partnership) meetings. If there’s no meeting schedule, I will go back to my pending personal tasks, or, I will use the time to explore opportunities and do some idea planning.
My daily working time will be finished somewhere between 5-6pm, but sometimes I still have some work to do after dinner time. If I have some free time at night, I like to watch movies or scrolling social media to keep updated with current trends.
Who inspires you in life and why?
I am inspired by Walter Elias Disney and how he (and his team) built the company from zero to as big as today.
Disney was first an animator but he took a risk to be an entrepreneur at a very young age. His first company was a failure, but he kept going and finally created a masterpiece that changed his life forever: Mickey Mouse.
The greatest challenge you’ve faced as an entrepreneur so far is?
My greatest challenge is to scale our user growth to the South East Asia market.
What advice can you give to LIF Alumni about finding an investor?
Before you meet the investor, do your research homework.
Are they the right investor type for my current investment round? What is their ticket size? Are they already invested in similar companies like ours?
List down the names and contact (I suggest 25-30), and start having meetings with the first 5-7 investors that you’re not so interested in. Use it as your rehearsal and take notes on their advice. After that, revise your pitch and start contacting investors that you really want to work with.
Last but not least, always be genuine and well prepared when you meet an investor!
Congratulations to Analia on her recent success and we look forward to seeing how Kiddo.id developsin the future.
